The ratio of the width to the height, called the Aspect Ratio of a TV, gives an idea of the shape of a television screen. A standard screen has a ratio of 4:3, that means a somewhat square-like shape. A widescreen TV has a ratio of 16:9, resulting in the popular ‘letterbox’ shape, similar to the cinema screen, the ideal format for watching movies.
Note that all new TV programmes in the UK are at present broadcast in this ‘letterbox’, or widescreen format.
Why widescreen? The idea of widescreen is based simply on the concept that a wider picture is actually more aesthetically pleasing to the viewer. Remember, of course, that television manufacturers use this pitch to sell us a home viewing experience that is supposedly closer to the cinema experience.
Here’s a consumer-friendly and independent tv buying guide from experts, for TV purchases.

An LED TV is just an LCD TV that’s backlit with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) instead of standard cold-cathode fluorescent lights (or CCFL) used in traditional LCD televisions. So the term “LED TV” used by some manufacturers may be a misnomer. This kind of backlighting allows a thinner panel, consumes less power, dissipates heat better and provides a brighter display with better contrast levels.
So remember that LED TV is not a new kind of TV.

Closed Circuit Television - CCTV for short, encompasses the entire range of recording and monitoring equipment used mainly for surveillance and security of both commercial and domestic properties. Of course, these days CCTV is put to plenty of other uses - health, safety, sports activity, factory or industrial production monitoring, even bird watching.
The components of a CCTV system include CCTV cameras, CCTV Recorder (Digital Video Recorder), display monitors, connectors, cables & accessories. (For a complete glossary see for example The CCTV Glossary).
To get an idea of the costs that are involved in buying a good CCTV system, you will need to remember that there are three basic factors to decide on – type of CCTV System required (small or big, residential or commercial), number of cameras, and the level of the complexity of the system.
